Dataran Merdeka or Independence Square is smack in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. I was taken there for a walk there pre-Indpendence by my late mother. There was then a quaint old fountain at the corner near Jalan Pasar Besar. Now that had been replaced by some structure which include the “tallest flagpole in the world”.
